We Bought the Old Central Kitsap High School Floor.
So yeah, thanks to some quick work between Skatetown and Central Kitsap
Schools we are now the owners of a beautiful ~12,000 sf maple floor. The plan is to put it into a new long-term rink here in Kitsap County. For the immediate future we will be putting the floor in storage as it was quite the opportunity that we simply could not pass up. The floor was purchased at the CK-Schools auction 7/10/2019 and we are currently working on the plan to have it out by 7/26/2019. If you are able to lend some time please sign up to volunteer and get on a work rotation.
We initially contacted C.K. Schools back on June 21st. After a bit of convincing that “yes we are serious” Capitol Projects scheduled a tour for the following week. It is a win/win as Skatetown was in the market for a floor and C.K. Schools had one that was destine for demolition. C.K. Schools made it clear in the discussions they would prefer items be re-used whenever possible, but it would need to run through a public auction process. That Skatetown will press the floor into service for youth target activities in the community makes this an ideal pairing. Deciding to move forward with the CKHS floor as the first choice was not easy, after a great deal of internal discussion and consideration we believe it is the right one.
Skatetown is now more committed than ever to find a long-term home to install the floor. There are several threads being chased out but so far nothing has materialized as the clear path forward. Keep your eyes on social media and the website for ongoing progress and upcoming activities.
This is awesome. Can’t wait to go skating on it.
When is practice starting then?
We Still need to get a location going. Several irons in the fire but nothing has materialized yet.
There is no established location to install the floor yet. We are working on it though.
That looks perfect! I can’t wait to see what’s next.
